Wampler has announced the Plexi-Drive Mini, condensing a revamped variant of its classic British-esque gain box into a more compact chassis.
The brand’s Plexi-Drive is a tried and tested stompbox capable of capturing the British overdriven amp sound associated with the likes of Jimmy Page, Slash, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Jimi Hendrix. The mini version packs the same core circuitry as its big brother, consisting of controls for Tone, Volume, and Gain for intuitive overdrive sculpting.
For some more thump, the Plexi-Drive Mini carries a bass-boost toggle switch, touted as the difference between a 2×12 and a 4×12 cabinet. The gain’s character draws inspiration from vintage 60s Marshall amps.
New for the Plexi-Drive Mini is a mid-boost toggle switch, which Wampler says, “creates a powerful throaty tube-like boost by tweaking several gain stages of the circuit at once.” Such boost performance was based on the usual pairing of the Plexi-Drive with other overdrives, driving its gain and character into uncharted territories. Therefore, the mid-boost impacts the gain stages instead of the overall output.
Wampler boasts a phenomenal lineup of mini pedals, including its take on the well-loved Klon Overdrive circuit, the Tumnus V2. The Plexi-Drive Mini is scheduled for a November 20 release, retailing for $149.97. Learn more at wamplerpedals.com.
