First taunted at NAMM 2020, Matthews Effects has officially launched The Futurist, a compact yet feature-laden MIDI controller pedal.
Designed to find a home in any pedalboard easily, The Futurist carries an LCD screen, four footswitches, and 3.5mm standard five-pin and USB connections for sending MIDI. You may configure the five-pin jack to function as either an input or an output through the use of an internal dipswitch.
Every footswitch unleashes one of the current bank’s four patches. When inside menus, they also work as navigational buttons. But if you’re not content with the four stock footswitches, the unit is expandable. You can add three more footswitches or connect an expression pedal to send MIDI expression.
Also available is an onboard software that lets you send 16 MIDI messages per patch and save patch-specific Expression, MIDI Clock, and Utility Jack settings. Moreover, an accompanying software enables crafting presets for MIDI control messages and creating, editing, and organizing patches.
As Matthews Effects puts it, “The Futurist is a unique, compact MIDI controller pedal that pioneers a better way of experiencing MIDI. Built on the core ambitions to make MIDI easier, more accessible, and to provide strong features, The Futurist, strives to bring you the innovations of tomorrow today.”
The Futurist is now available for $229.99. Head over to the Matthews Effects website for more details.
