Mateus Asato has joined forces with Jackson Audio for his signature dual-drive stompbox, the Asabi Overdrive Distortion.
Among the Asabi’s primary features is the analog “plug-ins.” These are actual circuit modules purchasable and swappable for an entirely new sound. The unit comes with Modern High Gain as the default module installed internally.
“To keep things interesting on your pedalboard, we developed the technology to create replaceable distortion plug-ins so you can swap the distortion circuit in the ASABI without having to buy a completely new pedal! Because we all like to try out new pedals, these affordable plug-ins allow you to buy the pedal once and update it with new plug-ins all the time!” Jackson Audio wrote.
Boasting a pair of independent drive circuits, the Asabi dishes out “soulful overdriven tones” and “liquid high-gain tones.” Per the brand, the overdrive section draws from the classic Marshall Plexi, while distortion is spec’d from the legendary JCM800.
Each circuit also features four clipping options, which you can cycle by holding down on its corresponding footswitch. On the distortion side of things, you can choose from the Marshall Guv’nor style, ProCo Rat style, and the two Suhr Riot styles. Meanwhile, the overdrive circuit’s clipping options include Marshall style, Tube Screamer style, as well as both symmetrical and asymmetrical clipping options.
While both drive circuits share an active three-band Baxandall-style EQ, they carry individual controls for tone, gain, and volume.
The Asabi Overdrive Distortion is now available for $349.99.
