Korg USA has announced the acquisition of New York-headquartered bass amplification products manufacturer, Aguilar Amplification.
The agreement, dated January 1, 2021, states that Korg is a direct investor in the Aguilar Musical Instruments LLC (AMI), which operates as an independent firm under the Korg USA portfolio of brands.
According to Korg USA President Joe Castronovo, “This is an excellent way to kick off 2021 and we are excited to add the well-respected brand of Aguilar to our portfolio.” He added that “For over 25 years, Aguilar has become a name synonymous with quality. We will continue to maintain that reputation and look forward to our future collaborations.”
Boasting over two decades in the industry, Aguilar Amplification has established its reputation for employing smart engineering processes to create exceptional gear for bassists. The company’s collection of effects pedals, cabinets, preamps, pickups, and heads has been a significant part of the bass sound. Aguilar Amplification products appear on recording studios and concert stages across the globe.
“This acquisition is an important step forward to help us take the brand to the next level. Partnering with Korg, one of the most reputable names in our industry, presents an opportunity to work with a world-class team focused on improving our capabilities and growing our business,” Aguilar co-founder Dave Boonshoft stated.
It is business per usual for the new AMI as Dave Boonshoft continues to supervise product development as a consultant, and Dave Avenius stays on as managing director. Aguilar’s talented staff will also remain on board.
