Dunlop has announced a limited-edition custom Crybaby GCB95, sporting a red paint job and wrapped in quotes picked by Audioslave and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello himself.
The Tom Morello Cry Baby Wah specs are akin to that of the stalwart Cry Baby GCB95, which, according to Dunlop, was behind “every album and every tour through his career.” It yields the GCB95’s aggressive, contemporary sound.
“Tom Morello, as a member of Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, and in his solo work, has long harnessed the expressive power of the Cry Baby Wah as an integral part of his sound, propelling the voice of the unheard above the raucous groove of drums and bass. Express your own vision in solidarity with one of music’s great freedom fighters with the Tom Morello Cry Baby Wah,” Dunlop wrote.
Compared to the original Cry Baby Wah, the GCB95 comes with more aggressive wah characteristics and a more focused high-end. With a heavy-duty die-cast chassis and a Hot Potz Potentiometer tested to one million cycles, the unit is famous for being very sturdy.
The two quotes on the Tom Morello Cry Baby Wah’s sides read: “Sometimes history needs a push” and “You don’t need a weapon when you were born one.” Per Dunlop, these words “highlight the battle for justice that [Morello has] dedicated his craft and career to.”
The Tom Morello Cry Baby Wah will be available soon for $185.70.
