MXR has joined forces with American musician Tom Morello for the Tom Morello Power 50 signature overdrive, which mimics the sound of its namesake’s go-to amplifier setup.
Bringing the sound of Morello’s Peavey 4×12 cab and Marshall JCM800 2205 head in a box, the Tom Morello Power 50 is controllable using Gain, Volume, Bass, Middle, and Treble dials. Also on offer is an effects loop that lets you place all your other effects post-distortion, as Morello does.
In a statement, the guitarist said: “The Power 50 Overdrive emulates the amp setup that I’ve used since 1988,” adding, “I’ve made 21 studio albums, and that amp, that head, and that speaker, and that tone has been on 21 of them. It’s been my signature identifiable sound since Day One of my career.
“If you want to have the sound that has been on those records, you don’t need to find an amp and speaker cabinet from 1988. You can get that sound with the Power 50 Overdrive, no matter what your setup is.”
Not content with that, you may also use the Power 50 in conjunction with the Cry Baby Tom Morello Wah to replicate his wah tone.
