Fredric Effects has unveiled its take on the Blues Breaker style of overdrive stompbox, the Blue Monarch Overdrive.
The Blue Monarch Overdrive comes with the same mods incorporated for the elusive Analogman King Of Tone variant of Blues Breaker overdrive. It sports a revamped layout, so all four controls (tone, treble boost, volume, and gain) are external. Fredric Effects has also replaced the DIP switch of the original with a toggle switch, operating the clipping mode.
Since Fredric Effects was “never quite happy with the overall volume of the BB/KoT,” the Blue Monarch Overdrive features a switchable boost stage for some added oomph. The pedal also boasts an increased gain on tap.
As the brand puts into words, “The Fredric Effects Blue Monarch overdrive is based on the popular Blues Breaker overdrive of the 90s, with the mods offered by the KoT version of this circuit with the long waiting list! We’ve redesigned the layout so all four controls are external, added a toggle switch to replace the DIP switch functions, and added a switchable boost stage because we were never quite happy with the overall volume of the BB/KoT. We’ve also slightly increased the maximum gain available, to make this a very versatile pedal.”
The Blue Monarch Overdrive retails for £125. Head over to the Fredric Effects website to find out more.
