Origin Effects has changed the name of its RevivalTREM to DELUXE61, clarifying that it has nothing to do with trademark dispute with Revival Electric.
In a statement, the brand revealed that the decision to alter the name aims to “reflect the fact that it is more than just a Tremolo pedal – it’s an entire amp circuit recreated in miniature, faithfully emulating the overdrive and tremolo sounds of a vintage 1961 Fender Brown Deluxe.”
A couple of months before the renaming, Revival Electric founder Travis Harris sued Origin Effects for trying to “strip” his company’s name. That came after the United States Patent And Trademark Office’s (USPTO) alleged denial of the trademark for the latter’s RevivalDRIVE.
Revival Electric is asking for “injunctive and monetary relief” for Origin Effects’ unauthorized use of the name RevivalDRIVE. If granted, the former will receive financial compensation while the latter would have to stop using the name RevivalDRIVE.
Regarding the DELUXE61, Origin Effects says that internal circuitry is similar to the RevivalTREM except for a “slight adjustment in output level.” It’s a dual-sided pedal with independent footswitches the tremolo effect and overall bypass.
The Origin Effects DELUXE61 carries an RRP of $459.
