After discontinuing its revered OB.1 Optical Compressor & Clean Boost last month, Strymon now introduces its successor, the new Compadre Dual Voice Compressor & Boost pedal.
The Compadre pairs studio-grade analog compression with an onboard boost circuit. Complete with everything players need to sculpt their front end tone, it allows the choice between two compression circuits, each featuring a distinctive character.
In the Studio mode, the Compadre dishes out vintage studio rack-style smooth and beautifully transparent compression. Meanwhile, the Squeeze mode delivers a more powerful compression effect typical of classic guitar stompboxes.
As is essential in present-day compressor designs, the Compadre pedal carries a Dry control to mix in the clean signal. It also offers a duo of analog boost circuits: a dirty boost and a clean boost.
Other features include MIDI compatibility, optional Strymon MiniSwitch or MultiSwitch Plus control, as well as the option to connect an external expression pedal.
While the Compadre does not incorporate the OB.1’s optical design, it sports additional compressor options and Dry control to make up for it. “Bring out your amp’s character in ways you never thought possible,” Strymon said in the press release.
